Image Velachery center conducted a seminar on Clay modeling on 17th Dec 2011.It was conducted by Mr. Manoj Kumar, faculty, Visual Design.

 

The basic purpose of conducting the seminar was to prepare them for the pre-production process of character designing.

 

Since it was season of Christmas, concept chosen was Santa Claus and making of Santa puppet. The seminar initiated with the brief lecture about purpose of puppets in animation industry citing topics like stop motion animations & 3D character designing in pre-production.

 

The technical part started with basic concept drawing and making of armatures in which the importance of armature & the purpose of making it were explained. Metal wires were used to create skeleton of a puppet model and M–seal for joints. Then the body of puppets was filled with foam to give bulkiness. Later clay was applied on the foam to form the body. Once the model was ready it was colored to give a fabric texture and also some detailing was done.It was an interactive seminar and the participation was immense.
